 Sound Types



Contrapuntal Sound - When the non diegetic sound doesn't have the same atmospheric tone as the visuals e.g. lighthearted music on top of the scene as a massacre proceeds.

Diegetic Sound - Sound which originates inside the world of the character.

Non-Diegetic Sound - Sound which originates outside the scene.

Dialogue - The words characters actually say.

Asynchronous Sound - Sound that is not synced with the visuals.

Sound Effects - Sounds that often don't get picked up but are added by a Foley Artist.

Sound Motif - A sound that seems to reoccur regularly, to indicate prescence of particular character.

Sound Bridge - Sound which continues during a cross cut scene.
